Your Safety Is My Punchline

‘Your Safety Is My Punchline’ is a zine about the controversy surrounding an article written by Nico Hines, a journalist for The Daily Beast, where he, a straight man, used Grindr (a gay hook up app) to find discover, and inadvertently ‘out’, which athletes in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games were gay.

Many of the athletes written about were closeted, and some came from countries where being gay is a punishable crime.

The story was eventually taken down, with an apology from The Daily Beast. Nearly a year later, Nico Hines also apologised.
